One of the many challenges faced by the rural Guatemalan schools
is the lack of educational materials and books. One significant
project developed to address this need was spearheaded by member
Mrs. Vera Derk. It’s called the “Literacy Program”.
The program provides English and Spanish elementary level books
for the classroom collections and school libraries. Since inception,
the program has collected approximately 24,000 books at a value
of $128,000.
In addition to book donations, BCOIA works to collect school
supplies, educational materials and monetary donations. This effort has amassed
a whopping $100,500.00 from both individuals as well as corporations.
Some of our corporate benefactors have included:
- ETA/Cuisenaire-Vernon Hills, Illinois
- Adelphi Research by Design - Doylestown, Pennsylvania
Thanks to donations made by these and other companies as well
as individuals, BCOIA has been able to supply school children
with notebooks, paper, pencils, folders and other individual school
supplies.
BCOIA is organized and operated exclusively for educational purposes
within the meaning of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue
Code of 1986, as amended, or to any corresponding provision of
any future federal tax law.
Please contact us for
corporate or larger donations.
Thank you.
